Week 8

Hi All,
Starting with the week after spring break, you will only blog about the weekly question and ONLINE assignments that are in lieu of class. I will continue to post each week to include all assignments due during the week. This week we have quiz 2 over chapters 3 and 4 and will have a work day for your midterm projects on Thursday.

Have a great week,
Dr. E

  1. Week 8

    Tuesday
The first thing we did in class today was an evaluation of the way we thought the class and assignments were going. We brainstormed ideas that we thought would make our work better and more efficient. Some of the ideas we thought of were changing the criteria for blogs and having a study guide that had multiple choice/fill-in-the-blank/true-false questions in addition to the short answer questions. For the last 20 minutes we went over the reading guide module questions in preparation for our quiz.

    Thursday
Today, we had a work day for our midterm assignments. As a group we tested our project and came up with some key points that we thought would be most important to teach the students. We also assigned parts of our note book for each member to do and supplies we would need to bring. We also talked to Dr. E. about getting a projector and some transparencies for our project.

    Week 8 Blog Post

    Tuesday:
To begin class, we were each given a sheet with different categories to write what we either agreed, or disagreed with what we were doing in class. Many people discussed the need to have more powerpoints in order to learn the material discussed in class. The students also expressed their feelings for the blogs, admitting that they would like the blogs to be more about the activities we cover in class rather than what we do in-between from beginning to end. We also discussed having more variety in the reading guides that we complete. Providing multiple choice and true or false would be quicker and easier for the students to finish on time. At the very end of class, we went over the answers to the reading guide in order for us to be prepared for the quiz.

    Thursday:
In today’s class, we met with our groups in order to talk about our projects, which are now due a couple weeks after Spring Break. In our group, we assigned each other different tasks to complete before we get back from break. The papers that need to be written, the materials that need to be used, and how we are going to present our project to the class are all covered.

  3. Tuesday in class, we did a class evaluation about what we liked and did not like about how class was set up. This was great to see that Dr. E actually cared about what we think! :) Everyone was given a chance to verbally state how they felt about everything too. As a class, we discussed that we would like to have the blog not be a recap of class. At the end of the class period, we went over the reading guide which was very helpful! :)

Thursday in class, we used it as a work day. It was very nice to talk to our group about our project and figure out who is going to bring what. It was a very nice and productive day. We also typed up some of our parts of the project and found some information we need.

  4. On Tuesday, we completed a class evaluation concerning how we thought the class was going so far. It was nice because it shows how much Dr. E. really cares about our opinions and wants us to have the best experience possible in the class. After a small discussion over this was complete, we went over the reading guide which is always helpful!

Thursday was a work day for our midterm projects. It was awesome to have the time to be able to talk with my group about what we wanted to do and make our plan. We typed up a small description of our project to send to Dr. E. and filled out most of the parts of the guide that she provided us.

  5. On Tuesday Dr. E went over any questions that the class hand and we went over most of the reading guide for module two. We also did a mid way survey of how we thought different aspects of the class were going. I thought this was nice because it gave us a chance to voice any concerns that we may have and/or let Dr. E know the things that we are liking.

On Thursday, we were able to get together with our groups and work on the midterm projects. This was nice because it can be hard to get a time that would work for all of the group members. We decided on a few different things that we were going to do. It was just nice to have the extra time in class to work on this.

  6. Tuesday in class we went over the questions on the reading guide. Dr. E answered any and all questions that the students had. Dr. E handed out a work sheet that allowed the students to evaluate our class. We then discussed first among our group members and then among the class what we thought was working in the class and what we thought could be changed. I was surprised when Dr. E actually listened to what our suggestions were and even put them into play. I have always had teachers who pretended to care about what I thought could improve the class but I do not know if I have ever actually had one listened. It showed a lot about Dr. E's passion for teaching and how she respects her students.

On Thursday we were allowed a work day to work on our midterm projects. Our group discussed who would type what paper work over break and what supplies needed to be brought when we get back from spring break.

  7. Tuesday: In class on Tuesday we reviewed the first half of the semester and gave our input for what we liked and disliked in the class. My favorite part is the hands-on labs. However, I usually feel that more discussion time before and after the labs are completed for a better understanding of the material covered. I also think that more lecture over the concepts and definitions would be very helpful. After the evaluation, we went over the questions in the reading guide and different areas that were unclear. This is always helpful before a quiz because it gives the class an opportunity to learn the things that were unclear at first.

Thursday: In class we were given time to work in our groups on our midterm projects. My group assigned materials and specific tasks to each individual group member. Our project is a lab over density, and my duties are to create the lesson plan and bring food coloring.

  8. In Tuesday's class we did a midpoint evaluation about how we thought things in class were going and we thought we were doing. We have decided as a class to only blog weekly about the online question instead of having to blog about our daily activities in class. We also went over our reading modules to help prepare for our quiz.

Thursday we had an in class work day to go over our midterm projects to see how things were going and who was assigned to do what. Our lab project is how to make a water lens.

  9. Tuesday we evaluated the class so far and gave our thoughts on what should be done for the rest of the class. Because our class is so attentive it was decided that we don't have to blog what goes on in each class. Instead we will only have to answer the weekly question.

Thursday we had a group work day for the midterm projects

  10. In class on Tuesday we discussed how the class has been going for everybody all semester. We filled out an evaluation of what we like and what we dont like. We decided to change the blog so that we only answer the questions on it and online assignments. I think this will work a lot better.

On Thursday we had group workday for our midterm projects. Our group got a lot done. We figured out what everybody needed to bring and we started writin our papers together.
